Dysport Q&A

What is Dysport?

Dysport is a nonsurgical form of wrinkle treatment approved for treating glabellar lines or the area between the eyebrows. Glabellar lines are especially noticeable when you squint or frown. Over time, these lines can also become more prominent during relaxation times.

This injectable is meant for use in people with moderate to severe glabella lines, not mild lines. Your dermatologist can help you tell the difference between mild and moderate wrinkles of this type.

What is the difference between Dysport and Botox?

Both Dysport and Botox are FDA-approved as safe and effective. The most significant difference is in the formulations of both injectables:

Dysport

Dysport is much more diluted and spreads quickly in comparison to Botox. This makes it great for larger surface areas like the forehead and vertical lines between the eyebrows. Results often last 3-4 months.

Botox

Botox is much more potent and makes the injectable neurotoxin injectable ideal for treating small areas and certain types of wrinkles like crow’s feet. The diffusion of Botox into the face takes longer than Dysport, but results also last longer. The duration of Botox usually is 4-6 months.

Both injectables require repeated treatments to maintain results.

Are injectables safe?

Dysport and Botox are considered very safe for most people, but it’s important to talk with a qualified medical specialist before you get either treatment.

At Sapphire Dermatology, you’ll meet with board-certified dermatologists for cosmetic and aesthetic consultations. The team will review your medical history and ask you some questions to determine if you’re a good candidate for injectables. You might not be a good candidate if you:

  • Have a history of botulinum toxin sensitivity
  • Have a milk allergy
  • Have a skin disorder
  • Have thick skin (as determined by your doctor)
  • Take certain medications

During consultations, the team reviews concerns and partners with you to develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs and goals. They are here to empower you, answer questions, and guide you.
